The often misunderstood and much maligned solution to urban / jungle close quarters fighting. The Lee Enfield no4 was a fantastic rifle - if only it was a little shorter and lighter - what could go wrong?

1946 Fazakerley No5 mk1 - British Cold War FTR

This exhibits a color matched set of mid brown stained Beech wood, which is typical of the Fazakerley supply chain and is not stained darkly by years of Cosmoline and linseed oil maintenance as many are after India / Indonesia service / surplus.

This example also shows all the hallmarks of a British FTR - no "Ishapore" screw and the parts are gently mixed with some M47C (BSA) and N69 (Singer) additions. Of note is the very rare and nice N69 (Singer) made rear sight (in No5 format). The Buttstock is also marked M47C (BSA).

This rifle was sold to a provate collector in April of 2026.

Here are some detail shots. It has numbers matching in 3 places - Wrist, Bolt and Front Lower Wood - although this has the wrong prefix character - which was possible in FTR restamping. This example also exhibits the lightening cuts to the receiver, barrel and key components for the No5 spec, trigger guard, safety lever.

The bayonet for the No5 Rifle and in shorter supply than the rifle - here is an example we sourced made in Poole Arsenal in 1946 and that has subsequently refinished.
