Sept 1953 Fazakerley No4Mk2 (Uganda contract / block).
The No4mk2 Rifle was the last battle rifle derivative developed on the Lee Enfield genre. Started towards the end of WW2 the design update was simple - arrange for the trigger to be hung directly on the receiver and not on the trigger guard 9with resultant tolerance stack up). This eased production and final finish / fit of the rifle and also allowed the trigger to be more positively controlled and so in turn increase the accuracy of the rifle. This update could also be added to No4mk1 rifles in the Factory Thorough Repair rebuild programs - buy brazing the trigger point block on to the receiver and then reassembling with a new piece of wood and trigger guard that were cut to pass around the block. The special bolt and nut are the external tells of this version.
Royal Armoury Fazakerley was a unionized production facility in the suburbs of Liverpool, England. Its war time production was spotty, however the rifles produced greatly aided the war effort. By the wars end Fazakerley craftsmanship and finish was second to none - which continued into the Cold War FTR and production programs. Fazakerley was so prolific that a table is necessary to understand the intended recipient of the rifle produced there - this includes the famous and desirable RAF contract and Irish Contract.
